Introducing the new SCP Upholstery Collection

One of our highlights from London Design Festival was the new upholstered collection by SCP.  All made in SCP's specialist factory in Norfolk using 100% natural and sustainable materials, we think you will love them.

There are two armchairs and four sofas by Matthew Hilton, Philippe Malouin, Donna Wilson, Wilkinson & Rivera and Terence Woodgate.

Natural and sustainable materials

For the first time, this SCP collection is 100% foam free upholstery designs. A project that their factory has been working on for over a decade. Foam, being petrochemical based, is the key unsustainable material in modern upholstery, and SCP believe it has to be removed from products to ensure they are truly sustainable. You can read more about this in our interview with Sheridan Coakley, founder of SCP.

Frames are made from FSC beech and softwood ply, with oak feet. The collection is upholstered with wool interliner, hessian, Typar, jute webbing, wool felt, Cocolok, needled wool and HD wool.

Soft power

The theme of this collection is an exploration of soft power. Blending the ornate with restrained, the extravagant with the classical.

Ada armchair

Designed by Matthew Hilton, the SCP Ada armchair design balances comfort with a delicate, hand-drawn aesthetic. Its proportions cradle the human frame.

Matthew Hilton says:

"SCP have a very particular way of doing upholstery, it's not the modern way to do it. I’ve said this before, and it might be a bit of a cliché, but it’s like making a tailor-made suit, and they have that feel. It’s not the kind of absolute perfection we have got used to with modern technology production, which can be a bit soulless. Some things are nice when you can see a bit of the human interaction in them." Matthew Hilton

Element sofa system by Philippe Malouin

A modular sofa system or standard three-seat sofa, developed from the idea of creating a fully enclosed conversation pit.

With a well-rounded aesthetic, this design grew from a focus on one particular element: the corners. By creating symmetrical matching corner units, which can act as ends as well as sides, and the addition of a central ottoman module, allows for the creation of a fully enclosed internal seating space - ideal for ultimate comfort, conversation and conviviality.

The MacDuff sofa by Donna Wilson

Featuring a boxy design, the MacDuff sofa is substantially sized with large, oak feet. We love the bright yellow upholstery - a playful approach like Donna's approach to design - and think its a distinctive and unique piece of furniture.
